SUN RIVERS HONORED WITH FRASER BASIN SUSTAINABILITY AWARD

November 27, 2000

The Fraser Basin Council announced the winners of the Sustainability Awards this weekend at its second State-of-the-Fraser Basin Conference. The five awards recognize communities, organizations and individuals throughout the Basin for their contributions toward the
sustainability of the Fraser Basin.

The Fraser Basin Council has recognized Sun Rivers for the Improving
Decision Making Award.. “ The landmark agreements between Sun Rivers and the Kamloops Indian Band put 460 acres of reserve land to work for the benefit of the whole community. The precedent setting lease clearly embodies the spirit of cooperation, respect and trust integral to shared decision making for sustainability.”

The awards are given for five different categories: Understanding
Sustainability; Caring for Ecosystems; Strengthening Communities; Improving Decision Making and Overall Sustainability. Last year the City of Kamloops was the recipient of the Overall Sustainability Award.

“The achievements of these award winners embody what sustainability is all about – and stand as inspiration to others to continue working toward a
Basin where social, economic and environmental sustainability are all in
balance,” said Iona Campagnolo, Chair of the Fraser Basin Council.

Georg Schurian, President of Sun Rivers was thrilled with the recognition,
noting: “This means we have been selected as ‘one of the best’ in the
province for ensuring a cooperative approach in the building of a master
planned environmentally sustainable community. What a great endorsement for us " says Schurian

The Fraser Basin Council is a unique autonomous non-governmental
organization committed to advancing the sustainability of the Fraser Basin,
which covers 25 % of British Columbia’s landmass and accounts for nearly 80 % of the gross provincial product and 10% of Canada’s gross domestic
product. The Council is made up of representatives from the four orders of
government (federal, provincial, local and First Nations) and community
organizations, and private sector enterprises.

Sun Rivers is situated on a spectacular 460-acre site overlooking the City
of Kamloops and Thompson Valley. Sun Rivers Golf Resort Community will
ultimately consist of 2000 homes integrated around a championship golf
course set against the stunning backdrop of Mounts Peter and Paul, the only community in Canada exclusively heated and cooled with geothermal energy. A resort hotel, village centre, parks, playing fields, community amenities, unique geothermal technology and practical innovations in water conservation make Sun Rivers the premier master planned community in BC today. A traditional yet contemporary community embracing sustainable technologies. A place to live, work, shop and play.
