Geothermal systems grabbed the attention of the Canadian Home Builders'
Association judges and Sun Rivers was awarded the Gold Tommie for their
project at the recent Thompson Okanagan Housing Awards. Winning the Gold
means that the builder has demonstrated outstanding consideration to environmental
awareness by taking steps to minimize the environmental impact of the project.
Geothermal systems capitalize on the abundance of energy found beneath the
Earth's surface and are capable of heating and cooling homes with unprecedented
efficiency. It is an entirely renewable energy source with zero CO2 emissions
minimizing environmental threats directly linked to fossil fuel burning.
With its compact urban form and clustered approach to development Sun Rivers
is uniquely appropriate for geothermal heating and is the only community
in Canada that is entirely heated and cooled with geothermal energy. "Geothermal

Best Single/Multi-family Landscape Design, Best Outdoor Advertising Signage

of adding another once the Provincial competition if over. "We already
know that we are finalists and have been awarded a Silver Georgie,"
says Schurian. The Georgie that Schurian refers to is the provincial competition
that recognizes excellence all over the province. "Next steps include
entering other provincial and international competitions," advises
Schurian.
