SUN RIVERS HONOURED AMONG AMERICA'S BEST NEW GOLF COURSES
Kamloops, BC, Canada
For Immediate release
(December 5, 2003): Today marks another major milestone at Sun Rivers Golf Resort as Golf Digest, the premier golf rating organization in America recognized Sun Rivers Golf Course as the Best New Golf Course in western Canada and 2nd overall in Canada, announces Georg Schurian, President of Sun Rivers Development Corporation. Golf Digests panel of more than 700 golfers evaluated nearly 200 courses that opened between May 1, 2002 and April 30, 2003. Candidates were judged on five criteria:
shot values, design variety, memorability, aesthetics and playability.
Designed by renowned Canadian Golf Course architect and golf champion Graham Cooke, the championship golf course is the focal point of the entire Sun Rivers community where golfers and non-golfers alike come for the experience a golf resort community offers. Graham Cooke describes Sun Rivers as having some of the finest five finishing holes of golf anywhere and is the nicest parcel of property a golf course architect could have the privilege of working with in Canada. Very few sites are as exciting and attractive as the Sun Rivers Golf Resort, he says.
As one of the few desert golf courses in Canada, the Sun Rivers Golf Course features dramatic elevation changes set amongst natural sagebrush, wild grasses and sand dunes. Classic bunkering, wide bentgrass fairways, a variety of elevated tee boxes, gently contoured greens and majestic vistas define Sun Rivers Golf Course as one of the most unique desert golf experiences in Canada today.
The par 72, 7023-yard golf course meanders in and around residential neighbourhoods and community amenities. Up to six tee boxes in strategic locations, fairways carved through natural canyons, views of the Thompson river valleys and the back drop of majestic Mounts Peter and Paul provide the ideal setting for golfers of all skill levels to enjoy their game.
Leslie Brochu, Vice-President of Marketing and Public Relations says, Joining the elite of the Championship golf courses in Canada is not just a huge endorsement for Sun Rivers but for the entire region as golfers continue to recognize Kamloops as an appealing golf destination offering some of the finest golf experiences in the world. Where else in North America can you experience this caliber of golf at such exceptional value? Kamloops is a hidden jewel and destination golfers are just beginning to discover the incredible value the area offers.
Sun Rivers Golf Resort Community is situated on a spectacular 460-acre site overlooking the City of Kamloops and Thompson Valley. Canadas only community exclusively heated and cooled with geothermal energy, Sun Rivers will ultimately be home to 5000 people enjoying the golf resort lifestyle just five minutes from downtown Kamloops. A resort hotel, village centre, parks, playing fields, community amenities, unique geothermal technology and practical innovations in water conservation make Sun Rivers the premier master planned community in BC today.
